Record Snow Pack In Utah May Lead To Flooding And Water Damage
It’s Not Too Late To Get Flood Insurance

Salt Lake City, Utah, 4/27/2011 — The snow pack in most of Utah is greater than the levels at the same time in 1983, the year of the infamous floods. This condition does not insure that there will be wide spread flooding, but if the weather continues to be wet and cold adding to the snow pack, the sudden temperature raise can cause the runoff to be very high. Another contributing factor is the water soaked ground. When the ground is soaked, it is unable to absorb the additional runoff.

Also, when the ground is soaked, the pressure from the ground water is finding it’s way into many basements that have not had water problems before. Ground water is hard to “turn off”. A sump pump is the common method of dealing with ground water problems. If your neighbors have sump pumps and you don’t, you may want to consider getting one, fast! If the water is already coming into your basement, deal with the water damage the best you can while you scramble to have a sump pump installed. If you have a sump pump, make sure your home owners insurance covers a sump pump problem or failure. Beware of caps on this coverage, and ad more coverage if necessary.

Normal home owners insurance will cover water damage events that originate inside the home, but not surface or ground water that enters the home. This coverage is available as a separate policy. It is called flood insurance and is underwritten by the federal government. Most insurance agents sell flood insurance. These are your options to protect you against the possible damage from flooding. Evaluate your situation and location and act quickly. There will be thousands of homes affected over the next few weeks.

By its very nature, a movie based on a video game is a bad idea all the way around. Yet, somehow, Hollywood has taken this idea and ran with it, with some movies having worse-than-feared outcomes (Double Dragon), some having about average outcomes (Mortal Kombat), and some having much better than anticipated outcomes (Tomb Raider, Resident Evil). However, Hollywood is most likely going to continue churning out mediocre video-game-based movies, one after another. But these ideas would be so bad, Hollywood should probably avoid them like the plague.

Pac-Man

Seriously, you’re going to make a movie about a yellow guy eating dots while being chased by ghosts? Who’s going to want to sit down to watch that for two hours? There’s no storyline in the game, there’s no potential for a storyline, and I seriously doubt anybody on this earth can take enough drugs to come up with one. (And by the way, I’m not asking you to try either.) This has “Hollywood disaster” written all over it. All the more reason I dread that some wise-crack studio will probably give it a shot, anyway.

Grand Theft Auto

Unless you plan on making it a Rated-R or NC-17 movie, I would advise strongly against it. And even then, I’m not so sure it’s a good idea to be making a movie based on perhaps the most controversial video game in history. But, much like Pac-Man, I can totally see somebody taking a shot at this, thinking that they can make it work. However, unlike Pac-Man, there is a storyline in this one, and a very prominent one at that. So the potential is there for this to be either a hit or a train wreck, with all signs pointing towards danger at the tracks.

Donkey Kong

As far as a live action movie, worst idea since the last Street Fighter movie. You’re going to spend upwards of hundreds of millions of dollars for voiceovers and CGI-animated monkeys? Why? As far as a cartoon movie, unless it’s going straight to DVD, even worse idea. There’s very little potential for storyline, sorry to say, and not many people are going to sit in a theater for two hours to watch that.

Paperboy

Seriously? A movie based on a game about some kid riding through town delivering newspapers on his bike? First off, this is 2010, most if not all newspapers in this country are either dead or on life support. (With many thanks to the internet, I’m sure.) Second, where’s the intrigue, the action, the suspense behind that storyline? Oh, I’m sure Hollywood will tamper with the idea until it works, but that’s pretty much the equivalent of throwing something on the wall until it sticks.
